Facial Veins
Fine, red lines on the face are one of the many skin changes we may begin to notice with age, and especially in a harsh climate like ours. Although tiny, these broken blood vessels or capillaries are visible beneath the skin’s surface and their appearance can often be distressing for those who suffer from them. Whilst not painful, facial veins and associated conditions such as rosacea can greatly affect the appearance of our skin and the way we feel about ourselves.
Facial veins and associated conditions such as facial flushing, redness on the neck, and rosacea are common conditions in both men and women and can occur for a number of different reasons. It can simply be a part of the aging process or a trait you have inherited from your parents, but anything that puts pressure on the delicate veins and capillaries in the face can result in visible facial veins.
Although anyone can develop a condition related to facial veins, there are certain risk factors and lifestyle choices that can contribute. These include:
• Sun exposure
• Inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema
• Food Intolerances
• Wind damage
• Moving between temperature extremes
• Injury to skin from extreme exfoliation or extractions
We understand that everyone is unique, therefore we will meet with you at a consultation appointment and tailor each treatment to your needs and concerns. It is possible that a series of treatments will be needed to properly address your concerns - we will discuss the options specifically suited to you, as well as the number of treatments possibly required at your consultation with us.
Rosacea
Rosacea is a more severe condition associated with facial veins. Consisting of prominent redness, visible veins and sometimes pustules resembling acne, rosacea appears on the central part of the face; usually the nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead. Rosacea is also responsible for a very noticeable flushing reaction which can be triggered by factors such as:
• Perfume
• Creams
• Sun exposure
• Exercise
• Embarrassment
• Food Intolerances
We offer solutions including anti-inflammatory topicals and supplements, and treatments using Intense Pulsed Light and lasers. At your consultation, we can offer you the best options for treating your concerns, a series of treatments will usually be recommended. Rosacea can be one of the more stubborn skin conditions, but with the use of lasers, you may only require maintenance treatments every couple of years.
Clients receiving treatment for these concerns should always wear sunblock if going into the sun and avoid sun exposure which can retrigger pigmentation. Your consultant can assist you in choosing an effective block that is easy to wear.
How Do I Treat This?
The laser energy causes the damaged vessels to collapse without affecting the surrounding tissues. The result is the veins disappear.
What else do I need to know?
More than one session may be required, depending on the number of veins.
